Santa comes to the Monticello Fire Department

Housefire : At 11:20 p.m., December 5th, the New Glarus Fire Department and Police were alerted to a house fire at on 5th Avenue in the Village of New Glarus. An investigation revealed the fire started in a rear room of the home and spread to an upstairs room and into the attic. Assistance from area Fire Departments, including Monroe, Belleville and Monticello, was rendered in bringing the fire under control several hours later and an extensive amount of damage was reported. See the December 11th issue of the Post Messenger for more details.

New Glarus : New Glarus is a village in Green County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,111 at the 2000 census. The village is warm, friendly and picturesque and was named after Glarus, Switzerland. The village was settled in 1845 by a group of 150 immigrants from that part of Switzerland. Because of its Swiss heritage, New Glarus attracts many visitors and tourists each year. New Glarus is renowned for its beer brewed by the New Glarus Brewing Company and its wonderful restaurants, including many with Swiss food. A town on the television show Prison Break was named New Glarus although no scenes were actually filmed here. Monticello : Monticello is a village in Green County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,146 at the 2000 census. The largest annual festival is the Monticello Homecoming celebration in July, that features a small carnival and more importantly, terrific food including homemade pies, the famous deep friend cheese curds, a fish boil and a chicken barbecue. Homecoming also features a weekend full of great activities, including duck races, mud volleyball, softball, volleyball, rope pulling, and canoe races (with almost no rules). On Saturday night an incredible fireworks display is set off from the island in the middle of Lake Montesian and on Sunday is the annual Homecoming parade. Monticello is also the home of the Dining Room at 209 Main Street, and the M&M Cafe as well as the Monticello House.
